The Residence Maldives Resort
The Residence Maldives has situated quite a bit away from Male. Board the domestic flight to Kooddoo airport. After a short stop in Kadhdhoo, you only have a short speedboat transfer left. In total it takes approximately 1,5 hours to travel from Male to The Residence Maldives. The ground staff takes good care of you the entire way.
The Resort is on the outer side of the atoll. Which means that you can be in for a bumpy ride if the sea is rough.
Opened in 2012 it is a relatively new property, with all the modern comfort you need in a 5-star resort. The design is bright walls, with dark wooden detail and thatched roof, with a touch of traditional Maldivian touches.
The Island is 1 km long, and with 94 villas it is a midsize resort. There are two jetties with water villas. One in the southern end, another in the northern. Be aware during periods of high winds. The villas that are facing the ocean on the sunset side of the south jetty can be quite affected by the wind. There is also a small selection of beach villas on land if you prefer this.
At the island, the main pool, the public beach, dive center, water sports and arrival jetty is located.
This area is fabulous for a sundown cocktail or hanging out after dinner to relax before turning in.
To get you around the island, The Residence has a set of comfortable bikes for each villa free of charge. Of course, they can drive you around in buggies if you prefer. The Resort offers Spa by Clarins and different food outlets. Amongst these Falhumaa, named after the islands name in Dhivehi Falhumaafushi. “Falhumaa” means secret flower and “fushi” means island.
Most of the villas at The Residence Maldives is the water villas located at the two big jetties. Along the coastline towards East is a variety of beach villas. The design of the villas simple, yet elegant and for the water villas, they all have a big terrace suspended over the sea, some with a cozy pool.
We stayed in a Deluxe One Bedroom Water Villa, with a huge living room if you should choose to stay indoor.
Besides the living room and terrace, there is a spacious bathroom with tub, twin vanity, and twin shower. The bedroom has good space for your clothes during the stay.
All villas are built around the same layout and offer a comfortable base. Sliding doors towards the waters gives a sense of light and air.
Restaurants and Bars
The fine dining restaurant is The Falhumaa – located out over the water at the end of a 230-meter long jetty. The concept of the restaurant is related to a local tale about a spice trader who got shipwrecked and ended up alone on this beautiful island. He got the company of a mermaid, who helped him collect fruits and vegetables on the surrounding islands to survive. Practically turned into a love story. Just want every tale needs. Falhumaa has a big focus on spices and how to use them in their dishes. Great food and atmosphere.
The Dining Room beachfront restaurant offers an international variety of buffet and a la carte dishes for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Both indoor and outdoor seating overlooking the lagoon.
Take a light and lazy lunch on your terrace with such a perfect view.
The Beach Bar serves wonderful light meals and drinks during all day. Perfect place to watch the sunset and have fun!
Pool and Activities
The Residence have a beautiful pool area along with the beach bar. A perfect place to hang out during the daytime, if you need a break from the beach or your villa.
Close to the public pool is the water sports center, where you can rent the usual stuff for watersports. But also solo water bikes, which we have never seen before. Very cool. The staff at very friendly and happy to help you learn different sports.
The Residence Spa is by Clarins, the first and only one of its kind in Maldives. The Spa has six treatment rooms over the water. Offers an array of many different spa experiences, along with a hairdresser and the outside deck for yoga and meditation.
To get the most beautiful lagoon view from your villa, ask to be designated in villas above number 312 – that will give you a dream of a location.
Summary of The Residence Maldives
The Residence Maldives is for those who wants to travel far down south, close to the equator. Down here the industry in not that developed yet, and you can get more privacy. Nature is very untouched. The vast villas invite to spend time in here. Try the private dinner in the villa, or dine at the beach in the evening – the Seafood Louisiana is something we bet you have never tried before.
Or sail away to the castaway island out in the ocean, such a beautiful experience.
